Southern magnolia is blooming beautifully!
Pics of my "tropical" New York City yard. I am in a USDA gardening zone 7 and I use plants that are hardy to our winters, are easy to overwinter indoors, or use as annuals to get the tropical look this far north. Please ask for my permission and give me credit if you use any of my pics! Thanks for looking!

Father's Day Blooms at my parent's house on Staten Island
My new Yucca rostrata!
So excited to put this one in the ground next year, but for this year it'll enjoy a spot next to my Madagascar Palm (Pachypodium lamerei) and my agave & bismarkia!
Also check out my Yucca aloifolia 'Magenta Magic' and Yucca recurvifolia 'Mellow Yellow'. These might go in the ground one day... we'll see!

Mid June Garden Update
The canna musafolia rubra are getting huge and I love the way the clematis is climbing around it
Variegated Crinum
This pretty Pachypodium lamerei (Madagascar Palm) is new to me from last autumn. Its finally sprouting new leaves!
I love a dark leaf dahlia
They overwinter so well in the garage!
These mulla mulla blooms are so cute (Ptilotus exaltatus)
My Peach Mandevilla is off to a slow start. Not my favorite variety for vigor but I just can't help myself with the leaves. Also growing inside is a Dipladanea Fired Up Orange
My Jiro Persimmon has lots of fruit. Usually they ALL fall off in late June. I hope this year they hang on
Echinacea
Here's an update on the cold hardy palms that I either bring into my garage (the plants in containers) or overwinter outside (the ones in the ground!)
My Mule Palm
New cannas are in bloom & a surprise!
I'm very excited that my Canna Ermine White is opening up its first blooms ever! They are truly white and unlike any other canna flower I've seen before. My Canna Australia also opened its first blooms this week. They're deep red against dark foliage. A nice combo!
Never give up on your plants. This pink china elephant ear is a reliable perennial in my garden without protection. It just started to sprout up this week, MID JUNE!!

Clivia in bloom
My friend gave me this giant clivia plant last year. It's struggled with mealy bugs and is definitely very rootbound but is thriving regardless!
