My Flamethrower palm and rhododendron have never looked better!
Pics of my "tropical" New York City yard. I am in a USDA gardening zone 7 and I use plants that are hardy to our winters, are easy to overwinter indoors, or use as annuals to get the tropical look this far north. Please ask for my permission and give me credit if you use any of my pics! Thanks for looking!

May Banana plant updates!
I'm going to give updates on my banana plants once a month to track their progress. They grow SO FAST!
Here's a list of my banana plants this year:
- Musa Zebrina - New from a local plant sale! I'm keeping this in a container.
- Musa Sikkimensis "Ever Red" - A local nursery was selling this one!
- Musa Mekong Giant - A small Plant from Brians Botanical (Musa itinerans var. xishuangbannaensis)
- Musa Velutina - Another small plant from Brians Botanicals
- Musa Sikkimensis "Bengal Tiger" - A plant delights purchase from 2022. It's now my largest banana and the centerpiece of my backyard
- Ensete Maurelli - Flawless plant that I got as an end of the year bargain in 2022.
- Musa Ae Ae - I got this at the end of the year in 2023 and I PLANTED IT IN THE GROUND. Say a prayer.
- Musa Siam Ruby - This did fantastic in the house under growlights this year. Ive had it in the same container for the past 3 years. It's pretty incredible!
- Ensete giletti - A Brian Botanical Purchase
- Musella Lasciocarpa - I'm excited about this one! Also a Brians Botanical Purchase.
And unfortunately I lost a few of my favorite banana plants.
- Musa Blue Java - This was my GIANT banana plant that was sold as Viente Cohol that I've had for years. Although it hasn't come back to life yet, I haven't completely given up just yet. I'll give up if I don't see any life by June.
- Musa Viente Cohol - I got this one last year. It was a sad loss.
- Musa Zebrina Gran Nain Banana - Another very sad loss.

My Flamethrower palm is growing a new frond!
Usually it only grows a new frond ONCE a year & it just grew one last September so this is a real treat. It's unfurling more and more every day!
