Just whoa!! A gift from my co-worker Antoinette!

Pics of my "tropical" New York City yard. I am in a USDA gardening zone 7 and I use plants that are hardy to our winters, are easy to overwinter indoors, or use as annuals to get the tropical look this far north. Please ask for my permission and give me credit if you use any of my pics! Thanks for looking!
Who doesnt love a little splash of color? I honestly might have as many variegated plants as I do green ones. And I will never get tired of them!
Here are a few in my yard here on Long Island, NY
Hedychium Ginger “Vanilla Ice”
Centennial kumquat
Variegated Mahoe Tree (Hibiscus tiliaceus)
Logees Variegated Pink HIbiscus from Farmingdale State College
Plumeria Maya
It's hard to believe August is. aweek away, but it's been a great summer and there are definitely more surprises on the way.
This is my Queen Emma Crinum that I purchased from Miami in 2021. |
Plumeria "Inca Gold" is starting to bloom. Musa Sikkimensis is growing a new leaf a week and is getting very full. I love the variegated cordyline here too! |
Mini Hibiscus "Peppermint" |
Giant, hardy hibiscus - Airbrush effect! |
Musa Ae Ae is producing a new leaf a week. SO exciting! |
Bismarkia is having a great year! |
Cycas revoluta x Cycas panzhihuaensis |
It's been years since my Plumeria Jenny has bloomed! Last year I dug it up, chopped half the roots back, and replaced the soil. It seems like plumerias respond very well to this treatment! Everytime I've done this, it's been a huge success!
I have one on Staten Island and another in my garden on Long Island. Both are blooming now. Such a pretty flower!
This plant is very marginally hardy in my parent's zone 7 yard in Staten Island NY. Ive had them survive mild winters (and spread vigorously!) but last year it did not bloom and I have lost it entirely in years past.
After a mild year though it's out competing my American Wisteria! The first blooms of the season opened this week and it looks like more will be on the way!
This pagoda-type plumeria from Jungle Jacks has been a reliable bloomer and has fantastic form. I purchased this along with Inca Gold in 2017 when I was living in Florida. It's bloomed nearly every year and is not too large. A great plant!
Plumeria Melody just gets better and better!
