Mid October Tour around the garden

We had a cold and windy past few days thanks to the first Nor'easter of the season. Fortunately the weather is improving and all the leaves have been cleaned up! 

Tree fern, monstera, dracaena fragrans, and my thanksgiving cactus is blooming soon!

My Ginger are thriving!

 Last week I visited my parents yard and was amazed as how much happier the butterfly ginger are this year in their larger containers! The ginger I planted in the ground survived the winter but didn't reach blooming size this season..

I'm also growing Vanilla Ice in my yard. These went into the house last year (too expensive to risk outdoors). I left Daniel Weeks and Fiesta outside and they didn't pop up until JULY!! Now those are in containers to get enough size on them to bloom next season.

 It was the 4th warmest on record for Long Island (despite a cool start). The plants responded really well and are looking as good as ever!
